Mathematics Education Program

Program Objectives:

The aim of the Secondary School Mathematics Teaching program is to train mathematics teachers who can practice their profession at national and international levels, who have the potential to realize the mathematics teacher special field qualifications, which are determined by the Ministry of National Education and comply with international standards, at the highest level.

Program Goals:

The target of this program is to have high-level mathematics content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge; Adopting a lifelong learning philosophy and professional development approach; Contributing to the development of mathematics culture in schools and society; have positive attitudes and values about the teaching profession; strong social and communication skills; Able to think scientifically, critically and analytically; Able to relate mathematical subjects and concepts to real life and different disciplines; Able to follow scientific and technological developments in accordance with the 21st century and use them effectively in the teaching process; Able to take responsibility individually or in groups in scientific studies aimed at the development of mathematics education; have scientific and professional ethical values; To train mathematics teachers who respect democratic values and human rights.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Has knowledge about the general structure, functioning, aims and principles of the Turkish National Education system and uses these aims and principles in applications related to mathematics education.
  2. Has field knowledge about the basic subjects and concepts in secondary school mathematics curricula and can analyze their historical, cultural and scientific development.
  3. Knows the application examples of basic concepts and topics in mathematics in other disciplines and real-life situations and can apply them in the teaching process.
  4. Can plan and implement the mathematics teaching process in accordance with the vision and theoretical foundations of the secondary school mathematics teaching program.
  5. Can use and develop appropriate resources, materials and technologies in mathematics teaching.
  6. Taking into account the needs and individual differences of secondary school students, they can apply appropriate teaching methods and techniques and create a classroom environment that encourages learning mathematics.
  7. Have positive attitudes and values towards mathematics and mathematics teaching.
  8. Can collaborate with relevant stakeholders at national and international levels to improve mathematics education and culture.
  9. Can carry out activities to support and monitor the mathematics culture in the schools and society where he/she works.
  10. Monitors the mathematics learning process of secondary school students and evaluates using appropriate measurement tools.
  11. Can conduct independent or collaborative studies/research to solve problems encountered in the field of mathematics education by using scientific thinking skills and research methods.
  12. Identifies learning needs for professional development and can direct his/her own learning.
  13. Observes professional ethical values and respects democratic values and human rights.
